FOAM Extinguishers (AFFF)
Slightly more expensive than water,
but more versatile. Used for CARBONACEOUS SOLIDS such as paper, wood,
plastic etc and FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS such as paraffin, petrol, oil etc
Although not encouraged for use
directly onto live electrical equipment, they are less dangerous than
water as the droplets of foam are surrounded by air (a good electrical
insulator)

DRY POWDER Extinguishers
Often termed the ‘multi-purpose’ extinguisher, as it can
be used on Class A fires (SOLIDS such as paper, wood, plastic etc),
Class B fires (FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS such as paraffin, petrol, oil etc) and
Class C fires (FLAMMABLE GASES such as propane, butane, methane)
NB! These extinguishers are very messy, dry powder can
damage machinery and electrical equipment. We strongly recommend they
are NOT used inside buildings unless there is no alternative.

CARBON DIOXIDE (CO2) Extinguishers
Carbon Dioxide is ideal for fires involving electrical
apparatus. It will also extinguish Class B fires (FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS such
as paraffin, petrol, oil etc) but has NO POST FIRE SECURITY and the fire
could easily re-ignite.
