Water Powder        CO2 Foam

9 Litre WATER Extinguisher

The cheapest and most widely used fire extinguisher.

NB! Preferred extinguisher: 6L AFFF Foam which is much lighter than the 9L Water, and is less dangerous to the operator if inadvertently sprayed on electrical apparatus.

Used for class A materials: CARBONACEOUS SOLIDS such as paper, wood, plastic etc.

FOAM Extinguishers (AFFF)

Slightly more expensive than water, but more versatile. Used for CARBONACEOUS SOLIDS such as paper, wood, plastic etc and FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS such as paraffin, petrol, oil etc

Although not encouraged for use directly onto live electrical equipment, they are less dangerous than water as the droplets of foam are surrounded by air (a good electrical insulator)

bullet Protective plastic base (except 2L size)

DRY POWDER Extinguishers

Often termed the ‘multi-purpose’ extinguisher, as it can be used on Class A fires (SOLIDS such as paper, wood, plastic etc), Class B fires (FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS such as paraffin, petrol, oil etc) and Class C fires (FLAMMABLE GASES such as propane, butane, methane)

NB! These extinguishers are very messy, dry powder can damage machinery and electrical equipment. We strongly recommend they are NOT used inside buildings unless there is no alternative.

CARBON DIOXIDE (CO2) Extinguishers

Carbon Dioxide is ideal for fires involving electrical apparatus. It will also extinguish Class B fires (FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS such as paraffin, petrol, oil etc) but has NO POST FIRE SECURITY and the fire could easily re-ignite.
