Fire Safety for Hospitals and Residential Care Homes - Part 1

Includes a document CD

Filmed in a working care home and hospital, this DVD covers: fire risk assessments (introduction), fire prevention, compartmentation, evacuation and fire action.

Part 1 covers:

  •  fire prevention

  • the importance of fire doors;

  • the dangers of oxygen supplies;

  • the action to be taken on discovering a fire; and

  • the action to be taken on hearing the fire alarm.

When used correctly, this training is Accepted by the National Care Standards.

There are around 800 fires in care homes each year in the UK, in which, on average, three people die  and a further 84 are injured. Apart from the human tragedy, there are significant losses in respect of property. Fires often result in businesses closing as they never recover.

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 came into force in October 2006 and has wide-ranging implications for care home owners and managers, many of whom are still unaware of  their obligations. All care homes must have carried out a fire risk assessment, have an emergency plan in place in case of fire and train staff how to deal with fires. Failure to comply could result in prosecution, with the possibility of unlimited fines or up to two years in prison.

These DVDs are designed specifically for care homes and hospitals and are the easiest and most cost effective way to comply with the new legislation.
